As a little girl, I didn’t like June 4th.
It was the day AFTER my birthday. For me, it ranked right up there with the day after Christmas or New Year’s Eve. All of the anticipation that led up to these Holidays were built up in my mind. The fun, the presents, family, and all of the festivities surrounding these holidays made them the special and unforgettable days they were.
Facing the day after was difficult. The show was over. The decorations came down and things returned to normal. All I could do was start pining away for next year…36 4 days away.
If you are a born-again Christian, God has placed heaven on our minds and joyous expectation in our hearts. There’s a longing deep down inside of the born-again believer to finally be home where he will be fully enjoying his citizenship in heaven.
Hope is “the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen” (Heb.11:1). The Christian has hope for something more. God placed a desire within us for far more than this world can offer. He wants us to have an abundant life here on Earth while knowing life on this side of Glory is not the full story. All we have desired, and waited expectantly for, will finally be fulfilled.
“No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love him” (I Cor. 2, 9b).
If you are not a Christian, there is still a longing for something more; non-believers just don’t know for whom or what they are longing. God places a yearning in souls in order for each to search and find Him. Some may choose to find their reason for hope elsewhere, but the question, “Is there more?” has been ingrained in the human psyche.
He designed us to live with humble expectation. If we have put our faith and trust in Him, we will spend an eternity in heaven where every day is a glorious celebration. We will worship our Almighty Savior forever and ever.. Hold on just a little while longer…..the best is yet to come!
